Here’s another Chisholm/Ubuntu Wallpaper. It’s a bit more subtle than my first Chisholm wallpaper and fits the more traditional Ubuntu color scheme.
Nevertheless, Chisholm is still being appeared to ubuntu-ly.

I’ve got some sweet David Lewis/Ubuntu wallpaper ideas. Next time I play around on GIMP you’ll be able to rock those.
Philosophers should have desktop wallpapers that represent their philosophical heroes, right?
To make a long story short, I needed an excuse to play around with GIMP (the Linux open-source alternative to Photoshop). Making philosophy hero desktop wallpapers seemed like the perfect excuse.
The result is one of the the nerdiest things I’ve ever done. I made an [...]
I just posted a BibTeX file for Philosophy and Phenomenological Research. You can grab it from the bottom of the right hand column. You can also just grab the file by clicking here.
It goes all the way back to 1960. Enjoy.
Here’s a summary of a recent study that suggests that sounds people hear (and by this I assume they mean the internal auditory phenomenology) can vary depending on what words people read when they hear the sounds.
The more I encounter these cognitive science studies about how our ordinary perceptual experiences can be fooled under [...]
I finished that referee report. I also finished a revise and resubmit so think good thoughts, say a prayer, sacrifice a chicken, don’t change your socks. Whatever your drill is…
Also, I received a revise and resubmit invitation from another journal. Hopefully, I can get at least one of these to stick this summer. We’ll see.
I just got my copy of Knowledge of God in the mail today. I’m participating in a reading group that will be hosted at Prosblogion. There are about eight of us who have agreed to take turns writing a review piece on each chapter.
I’ll be writing about chapter 3 when it comes up, but [...]
Here’s an interesting article about a group of people, including one neuroscientist, who plan to cheat death by uploading an exact copy of their brain states to a computer.
Of course this plan does assume some kind of psychological continuity theory of personal identity. I hope someone has seriously discussed The Duplication/Fission Problem with them.
Net-neutrality debates and the issue regarding re-instating a metered internet are starting to get more MSM attention. Here’s a recent New York Times article that came out yesterday.
And here’s a related, interesting column that came out a year ago on pbs.org. It’s not about net-neutrality per se, but it is interestingly related. It argues [...]
Lewis Powell and Justin Snedegar plan to revive Hesperus/Phosphorus and broaden it to include any graduate student in Southern California (not just USC students). I expect to see some good things coming from that blog. Keep your eyes peeled.
I’ve blogged a bit about the switch to Linux for personal reasons. I’ve also blogged a bit about the switch to Linux on a college campus.
Here is an interesting article that discusses why and how K-12 schools should switch to Linux.
