How To Submit Papers Using Google Documents

All paper submissions that are not part of our blog discussion must be submitted to me via Google Documents. You may opt out of this method. Read the course privacy statement for more details.

How to Create Papers in Google Documents

The great thing about Google Documents is that you can write papers using a web browser from any computer with internet access. Read this getting started guide. It will explain how to create documents from within your web browser. If you would rather write papers using MS Word or Open Office, you may do that and then upload a copy into Google Documents later to share with me.

How To Submit it To Me

  1. With the document open…Click “Share” button (located in top right when doc)
  2. Click “Invite People”
  3. Enter my gmail address in the box labeled “Invite” – my username is “andycullison”
  4. The default should be set so that I can edit your document. If it’s not, make sure that “To Edit” is checked. (Click here to see a screenshot)
  5. Click the Send Button
  6. Google has more details about sharing documents here.

How do I know the professor has it?

  1. Click “Share”
  2. Click “See Who Has Access”
  3. If you’ve successfully shared your document “Andrew Cullison” will be listed as one of the persons with access

More Information About Course Use of Google Docs
I will grade and comment on your paper in Google Documents. There are several advantages to this (I discuss them here). This process, however, does involve using the Google Documents service. I have confidence in the security and privacy of Google, but it seems only fair to give students the option to opt out of having their papers stored on Google servers. Please see the course privacy policy for more information about how Google Docs will be used in this course, and for how you may opt out of this use.
