Two things happened yesterday. I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and FedEx brought me my new smartphone – the Motorola Droid. So on balance, yesterday was awesome. That’s how great this thing is.

Don’t get me wrong,
I have a lot of love for the G1. It was the first Android phone, and while there were clearly some things that needed to be worked out, Android was clearly a killer OS.

Android has just made some huge improvements on the Droid. The OS does, as others have noted, feel less beta-ish. And the blazing fast hardware only adds to the amazing-ness. So all things considered, despite my pain and my G1 love – the Droid made yesterday awesome.

Highlights
-Screen is gorgeous.
-Wider Screen than G1
-5 MP camera with flash
-Video recording is fantastic. Very good resolution for YouTube.
-Blazing fast 3G (even in a place like Fredonia, NY)
-wider keyboard than G1.
-support for multiple Gmail accounts
-battery life seems to be (at least) twice the G1, and I have not implemented any power saving features yet.

That’s it for now. I’ll probably blog more about this later. Bottomline: I’m in pain, and rocking Godfather cheeks – but my utility level is still on the plus side.
